IDAHO
  • Boise
Pool: Boise City Aquatic Center @ the West Family YMCA
    SGOL Link
    Rating: A
The The Good News: Indoors, fifty meters, clocks, kickboards, pull buoys and crisp cool water!
The Bad News: Look around. You landlocked are in Idaho.
Details: This is not a typical Y pool. It's hooked up with the city somehow and it's great. Half of it is roped into approximately eight 25 yard lanes. The remainder is open for Marco-Polo playing brats and their happy parents. Luckily, I had a lush, wide lane all to my lush, wide self each time!
If you are feeling ignored and want to be stared at by people who suspect you are not a local, show up at this pool with a tan. You'll get the Roswell treatment.A

  • Pool: Downtown YMCA
    SGOL Link
    Rating: B+
The The Good News: Indoors, 25 yards, kickboards, 6 lanes, paceclocks, crisp water.
The Bad News: Limited lap swim schedule (like, an hour at a time) and if the wrong lifeguard is holding court, they pull every other lane rope out and make you swim in two lanes. Up one and down the other. Sigh.
Details: This Y is walking distance from downtown Boise and a million coffee shops. Oh, you will be juiced for this workout baby.
