SOUTH CAROLINA POOLS
The Good News: The pool is filled with water and you are not Christopher Reeve.
The Bad News: Oh God...here goes. 20 yards, hot water, no flags, no black marks on the walls, no lane ropes, no lifeguard, no hope. And skanky gross green kickboards.
Details: I knew this would suck. I lowered my expectations as low as possible, and still I was disappointed. I swam here only because I was working in Augusta, Ga which has no lap pool in the winter time and the only thing worse than swimming in a crummy twenty yard pool is getting back in shape after missing a week of workouts. Anyway, Columbia is an hour drive and I didn't have anything to do all day, especially in Augusta, a true cultural wasteland. The Swimmers Guide Online said the Y was twenty yards long, and I prayed they were wrong and they weren't. Of course. The only saving grace is that the staff is very nice, the way that very nice Southern people are when they want to make me feel guilty for complaining. It was Christmas time and staffers were wrapping presents for needy kids, which is a hell of alot more than I ever do, so there.
